Fall Trend Report 2015

Well now that we are in the midst of SS 2016 Fashion week (lol) and it is cool weather for the first time now in Cleveland, I am ready to publish my Fall Trend Report for 2015. Let me tell you, there was a lot of research and pinning that went into this, and I could tell you any designers fall runway look with my eyes closed. But, I am very inspired this fall more so than ever, because it seems to me that the runways were refreshed this year-it was completely saturated with layered grunge, hipster knits, preppy toppers, usual jewel tones, etc. What do I love about fall fashion this year (besides too much)? Relaxed, no-fuss silhouettes of classic 70's styles with more of masculine tone. Tailored and crisp shirts, dresses, suits, pants that are meant to be fitted and polished. Soft structure of overlarge coats over flowy dresses. Historical fashion-inspired embellished and encrusted gowns. The edgy ankle boot. Denim as the main statement. The idea that blush pink is the main neutral. A return to the feminine silhouette in regards to fit and cut. And lastly, I loved that the accessories this fall are not too serious. Lots of fuzzy poufs, technical accessories, bejeweled hair pins, pastel bags, fun laced shoes. And while I don't feature beauty much mainly because I am so simple when it comes to hair and makeup, I am loving the basic velvet berry lip, gold metallic shadow, pulled back and knotted hair and clean dewy face.

So lets get into the trends, the favorites, and how to suggestions of the fresh new fall.

Victorian Vibes

Moody, tailored, lady-like and sumptuous all in one. These pieces go well in black, white, cream and even blush. Pair tops such as above with clean lines on the bottom and let the ruffles and lace do the talking. Keep jewelry and makeup minimal, and showcase the ornate necklines by pulling your hair back.

Upholstery Revival

No longer a stuffy and medieval fabric the tapestry and brocades are refreshed in new cuts this fall. Fit-and-flares, A-line mini's, short shift dress, a statement skirt and especially jackets. This look tends to be adorned with metallic threading and busy patterns so keep the rest of the look in a solid color to compliment the shiny piece. With this royal look, play up your hair and makeup to balance the color going on below. For the daring: try pairing an ornate dress or skirt ensemble with a thoroughly modern shoe.

The New Neutrals

Olive green is everywhere this season, in everything from clothes to purses to boots. Autumn rust is the new camel. And blush pink is the number one biggest color trend of the season. Surprise combo that I am loving? Pink and olive green. As seen on the runways, in stores and in fashion magazines these two colors compliment each other brilliantly. Layer a shorter dress over a blush slip dress as above. Rock bright pink pumps under your suit. Add a rust faux fur coat over a slinky night dress. With these colors as the base, you have more room to play with accessories. Compliment the look with an intense dark smoky eye and dark pout. Feeling brave? Wear head to toe of one color in different shades and compliment it with alternate color handbag.

Pattern Play

Sometimes referred to geek-chic or grandma's closet, the art of pattern mixing hit an all time high this season. The classic advise to those who want to pattern mix are to keep the outfit to a maximum of three colors, and keep whatever print in the same scale. Go outside the lines (pun intended) this fall and be brave with your busy pieces. Chanel paired a classic V-neck argyle sweater vest with a large-scale plaid pencil skirt in a flannel fabric. Miu Miu featured ruffles, stripes and sequins. Valentino's gave off a crafty seventies vibe with light knit sweater and dress combos in coordinating colors. Not feeling so loud? Try one statement piece such as an oversized cardigan or a statement boot.

A Modern Mod

We saw a little revival of the swinging sixties on the runways paying homage to classic shapes such as a mini shift dress, a mini A-line skirt, go-go booties, fluted bell sleeves and patters psychedelic and artsy alike. This isn't the colorful wild Austin Powers sixties, so make it modern for today however by wearing one throwback piece and current add-ons. Layer a swingy mini over a turtleneck and add flat over the knee boots. Beauty wise, keep it simple with your natural hair down, light makeup and minimal jewelry.

Think Pink

Thumbs up for girlie-girl's everywhere this fall as pink is here for the rest of the year. As you know the new neutral is blush, bubble-gum pink is also a fantastic and fresh color to work into your wardrobe this fall (if you don't have tons of it already). Pink pairs well with gray, black, camel, olive, emerald and cream. If your not a total gossip girl, incorporate this fun color into a small bag or pumps to your everyday look. (the box clutch at top left and Prada bag on bottom right are totally screaming of the characters in the new show Scream Queens) And if you love pink, well there are now so many choices this fall that you can wear them more days of the week than just Wednesday.

Eclectic Boho

A little bohemian rhapsody, a little desert wanderer, a little eastern influence. This trend mixes the seventies with all the glory of flowy shapes, layered pieces, mosaic patterns, and rich details. The look is loud, and plays well with extra add-on's such as tassel belts, gold chokers, and fringe purses. Shaggy hair and desert colored makeup palette best compliment this look. For an everyday does, wear a current shape dress with a loud pattern, or a fancy lace printed top with a plain skirt. Jazz it up with over the knee suede boots and it's a runway to real-day look mastered.

The 70's

As my love for this decade's fashion is too great, I had to do two montages (and I'll try not to gush too much). The 70's style brings out your inner boho goddess, cool chick and all around easy breezy chic without effort. I love the variation of different fabrics and textures that could be combined in just one look alone. I love the colors, the layers, the movement of the fabric. And who doesn't love killer boots? This fall 70's style is invoking all these characteristics and then some, with inspiration from around the board. I saw wild child boho glam, too cool for school hazy get-ups, boy meets girl pants and jackets, dancing in the incense printed dresses, wild west polish. Lara Stone for H&M's fall campaign is everything I want to be this fall, polished and chic with timeless pieces. How to wear this style? (I'm going to retract the term "trend" on this category, for this style really never dies, thank goodness). One rule, wear whatever you feel the best in.

Shoes of the Season

Chelsea boots. Edgy ankle boots. Victorian inspired boots. Mod boots. Fringe. Technicolor. Menswear flats. Block heel Maryjane's. Lace-ups. Mules. Kitten heels. Embellished and accessorized.
All shoes from Asos and Zara.

Beauty Looks

This fall, it's all about ease. Metallic manis, gold plated lids, velvet berry lips and hair away from the face. Typically I leave my hair naturally wavy during the work week to save my strands from styling, so the slicked back knots, and old-school barrettes to pull you hair back is what I am loving. I'm taking a "less is more" approach with my look this season and plan on rocking a slicked back knot, dewy skin and rich lips.

My Favorite Runway Looks

A dress inspired by Pride & Prejudice, a grown-up Wednesday Addams dress, oversized turtlenecks, dresses from the royal medieval court itself, and feminine takes on tailored classics.

A little bit more romantic court inspo, a nod to the glam seventies, a chic look on frills and beautiful contrast lace round out my favorite looks from the Fall 2015 runways. And my inspiration for this season?

Soft tailored silhouettes of the 19th century, classic 70's style icons, and the sumptuous and detailed modern-day gowns turned royal of the hit show Reign, where the brilliant costume designers mix vintage and runway to compose a simply stunning dressed cast.

I'll soon be showcasing my fall haul, and how I plan to style my new pieces inspired by the runway with some fabulous items already in my closet. I hope you liked this post, I know I had tons of fun composing it, and be sure to come back for my spring edition later this year!
